I heard the phrase “I hear them calling the song of spring” sometime in the winter of 2020, when the future seemed dismal and time appeared to be frozen in place. When I had the opportunity to write a work for trumpet and sinfonietta, I felt an urge to consider what the “song of spring” meant to me. This imaginary spring-song was full of optimism, brilliance, and brightness, all of which informed and shaped the piece. This work is dedicated to Evan Honse, the trumpet soloist.
